That is kind of weird, isn't it? The same can be said about James' graphic novel in comparison to the comics/stories that came afterwards. I'm one of the few that likes COA, and it's certainly not due to the story That movies saving grace was the Beautitul (and ever since then....Often Imitated) production design. I felt COA got really weak towards the end w/the drinking of the Crow's blood, etc. Other than that, it's a pretty Decent sequel. But then again, I Love Goyer so I may be a bit bias.

As much as I wanted to like WP, it just didn't click w/me. It was IMO, the "Batman & Robin" of this franchise. What I'd like to see, is an end to the Crow movies and the relationship w/Dimension or Miramax films, then maybe 5-6yrs. later have some Brilliant person come along, pick up the rights to James' book, do a direct book to film translation (ala Sin City...B&W, the works) and then, Maybe...MAYBE one or two sequels (w/o Eric of course). Brandon contributed a great amount of talent and care into The Crow '94, we all appreciate it and have accepted it. For some of us, the original film is all we have to go by That's the only crow movie I can say I TRUELY enjoyed from start to finish. Brandon's story has been told, we all love him, he'll always be Eric. But, I think ERIC'S story needs to be told (through film) the way James O' Barr wrote it.

Visually, O' Barrs graphic novel is Wonderful and would add A LOT to its cinematic interpretation. Imagine seeing the scene where Eric's on "the train" and sees the horse get caught in the barbed wire. Hell, even the silly "Cat in the Hat!!" scene would be something refreshing. Perhaps, even have the song lyrics/poetry act as "intermissions" to the viewing audience. There's just so many ways you could go about telling the story. In fact, it'd be fun to work on such a visually pleasing book and translating it to film. Hell, why not have James Direct? It worked for Miller This CAN be done. The technology IS there. It CAN be done w/a minimal budget. The only problem is, there's no interest.

What Miramax doesn't realize is that they NEED to cater to both the fans of the book as well as fans of CINEMA. If you don't put quality shit out there that'll attract ANYONE (Salvation, WP), then why bother? Why become another "Full Moon" productions? (No offense, I dug them when they were around). It seems like every sequel has been for the fans...which I GUESS is to be appreciated, but they should strive for more. They SHOULD want to get the best performances out of Everyone. They SHOULD want to impress non-comic readers (Batman Begins anyone?), and more importantly, they SHOULD care for the source material and/or underlying themes.
