What did everyone think about the ending change? Sure, it was shocking, but I thought I ruined Thomas Jane's character... the book ends with uncertainty, yet hope. The movie ends with bad choices and despair. Having recently seen "30 Days of Night" the comparison between Thomas Jane's actions and those of the deputy who killed his family can't be missed. Eben (Josh Hartnet) understood that you never kill your family, no matter what. He made that clear. It's not even like they were in any immediate danger! And none of them were even hurt! So what if they ran out of gas... start walking!

Anyway, Stephen King didn't mind the ending change so I guess I can't care too much :) But damn, that killed an other wise great film. Also, w3hat the ending says about the characters actions, what it calls into question... didn't seem to gel with the rest of the film.
