With the recent death of Natasha Richardson, I am wondering what people think about the right to die.
Several years ago with the tragedy of Terry Shaviro, all these celebrities came out and said not to take her off life support there was all this media attention.
Now recently with the death of Natasha Richardson and her family chosing to take her off life support, I have yet to hear one member of Hollywood stand up and say that this was the wrong thing to do.
I am wondering what people out there would do in a time like this?
Would you take someone off life support or would you keep them alive with the hope of them being able to recover?
With Natasha, she was announced brain dead - according to media reports. In this instance, people never come back from it but was it right for the family to decide to remove her from life support.
With Chuck Norris's public outcry on the internet about Terry Shaviro, I have this feeling that had Brandon been in a coma, Chuck Norris would of fought life and limb to have the life support system remain on. I honestly wonder, if his Christian beliefs now form a basis of what he believes in or if Brandon had been in a coma, Chuck would of fought for this right for him to live or have been an advocate for the machine to be switched off.
I think that celebrities have no right in voicing their opinions that have nothing to do with them, like the case surrounding Terry Shaviro, but it seems as though they think they have the right to play God on any occasion as long as their voice is to be heard. It would of been nice to know if the Norris's went out of their way to help with the medical and funeral costs since they decided to have their voices heard during this time.
It is okay for these celebrities to stand up and say what they think families should do in these times, but if it was a celebrity going through the same situation, would you think they would want to hear the opinion of what other people would do. I think at times, celebrities should respect people and don't say a word.
It would also be interesting to know what the Neeson's views on the right to die was prior to Natasha's death, but out of her death, it is nice to know that her family donated her organs for transplants. I have always wondered about this issue with other deceased celebrities including Brandon, was his organs donated or not? It is definitely a personal issue but on occasions you do hear that some celebrity had their organs donated, but I never heard this about Brandon.
When celebrities die, it makes us a bit more aware of death and how easily it can happen - and under what circumstances and at times it can make us question what we believe in too.
