OK, guys, here is the info I promised.
I talked to James O'Barr on Saturday, May 16th at Motorcity Comic Con. For those of you that don't know, James created, wrote and drew/painted the original Crow comic book.
James was more than willing to talk about all things relating to The Crow, and he is not shy about holding back his opinions! When I asked him if he had heard anything about the remake, he told me this (I'll try to relay this as close to verbatim as possible):
"I don't think it's going to happen. They haven't had one good remark or response to any of the proposed ideas yet."
When I interjected that I believe that they should just leave the original alone, he not only agreed with me but also said, "they never should have made any of those sequels either."
From what I gathered, when the first one was made, James sold the film rights to The Crow. Whoever owns the rights to it can make as many sequels, TV series or remakes as they like. He no longer has any say as to if they will or won't make any more.
That said, it was nice to hear him echo my own concerns on the remake as well as my distaste with the sequels. However, it was kind of sad to learn that he has no control over his own creation as far as films go.
Outside of that, James was a great guy, and I enjoyed getting to talk to him at the Con as well as at the after-party.
Hope that helps answer some questions I know more than a few of us have had.
